It’s time to wake up, put on a flapper dress and flashy makeup, fix a cute bob with 2 flower pins, put on the black high heels, and off to the south ferry. The sun was shining, a beautiful day, and I was on my way to the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island. It’s the 1920s again and everybody who’s anybody was present. Guys and gals all dolled up in flashy suits and flapper dresses ready to swing to the sounds of jazz. Michael Arenella’s Dream Orchestra was entertaining the wining and dining crowd and I was able to have the greatest view while selling hats for all at the Worth & Worth hat stand located right across the stage. Men and women from every corner come to have their heads measured for the right size. Fedora’s, Panama’s, Newsboy caps, a never-ending love story between the head and the hat. The Boater hat was the cat’s meow. The last bit to complete the set whether with a navy hatband or the classic stripes. Everyone’s a winner.
The whole day was a scene from The Great Gatsby and I enjoyed every moment of it. A glimpse at the past and a break from everyday life. See you again in August!
